Sip mint juleps and watch the 137th Kentucky Derby race on our large projection screen! The race starts at 5:24pm, then hit the dance floor and enjoy the music of Earl Foss and the Brown Derby. Earl Foss and the Brown Derby is a traditional country band out of Madison. They play original tunes as well as some vintage gems you might recognize. Overall, the Brown Derby experience is honky-tonk-alicious, in that it combines exceptional songwriting with great vocals, charisma, and mind-blowing guitar riffs.
Brown Derby Poetry Night
After the resounding success that was Brown Derby Coloring Night/Arts Appreciation Night last November, Earl Foss and the Brown Derby has decided to host Brown Derby Poetry Night (A Celebration of Wordstuffs)!!
The plan is simple: show up at the Crystal Corner in in Madison next Wednesday (4/20) for our regularly scheduled free show at 9:30 p.m. or earlier. Earl Foss and the Brown Derby will provide all the the pens and paper (aka “art” supplies).
Feel free to submit as many Haikus or “songpoems” as you like. (Examples of Haikus will be provided). Prizes will be awarded for Haikus in three categories: Country Music, Brown Derby and Romance. One winning “songpoem” will be put to original music by Earl Foss and the Brown Derby and performed at a sooner-than-later date to be agreed upon by the band and the winner.
See you there!!
Brown Derby Celebrates Grandma Jean/Poland
Grandma Jean’s private birthday party in Lake Mills yesterday was a great success, including cake, mini sandwiches, lots of dancing by people of all ages and at least four boxes of Franzia. Today, the Brown Derby tour van heads to Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall in Milwaukee, where we’ll be playing a special dueling stages show with a Western Swing band, The Best Westerns. The action goes from 2-6 p.m. We hope to see you there.
Fun fact: If you google “Polish beer” the Kochanski’s web site is the second result. This must be a good sign.

For now, time to iron those jean shorts and dust off those folding chairs and beer cozies.

BD News: March 2011
After another tremendously fun and scary year playing every Wednesday night at Madison’s Crystal Corner Bar, where dreams go to die and just as suddenly get reborn, we’re taking the month of March off. In lieu of our regular show, rest assured will be eating tons of protein supplements; doing our situps, pushups and chinups; practicing our scales; and reading today’s top poetry. This means we’ll be coming back stronger than ever when we resume our regular Wednesday schedule in April.
For our return, we’re planning several Brown Derby theme nights at the Crystal Corner. Since BD Coloring Night was such a success, we plan to tickle your art bone again with BD Poetry Night, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 20. Modest prizes will be awarded for winning poems and haikus in various BD-related categories, such as: Country Music Memories, Cured Meats, Memorable BD Moments and Kyle’s Physique. Also, in May, we plan to host Brown Derby Laser Light Show Night. We can’t get into too much detail at this point, but this will be a Wednesday night you will not want to miss.
In other news, we’re continuing to record our second full-length album, with more studio time scheduled for May. We’ve also got some fun non-Crystal Corner shows coming up, including a special Sunday matinee show at Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall in Milwaukee on Sunday, April 3, and a Kentucky Derby show at the High Noon Saloon in Madison on Saturday, May 7.
